Earmuffs Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 13, 2026
Overview
Earmuffs helps you control and filter sensitive content in audio. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the app or related services.
Scope
This Policy applies to the Earmuffs mobile applications, websites, and services we operate (collectively, the "Services"). It covers data collected when you:
Use the app (including anonymous authentication)
Visit our website or contact us
Receive support, updates, or communications
Data We Collect
Data you provide
Anonymous authentication identifier: an app‑specific ID generated by Firebase Anonymous Auth.
Profile and preferences: filter settings, language, and other in‑app choices. - We do not collect audio from you.
Data collected automatically
Usage data: feature interactions, in‑app events, session metadata.
Device and app data: device model, OS version, app version, and performance metrics.
Diagnostics and analytics: crash reports, error logs, and event analytics via providers such as Sentry and Google Analytics. These do not include your name or email.
Data from third parties
Firebase: anonymous authentication and app infrastructure.
Analytics and diagnostics: Google Analytics and Sentry.
How We Use Data
We use personal data to:
Provide and improve the Services and apply content filters
Maintain anonymous access and sync preferences on your device
Diagnose and fix issues, secure our infrastructure, and prevent abuse
Communicate service updates and respond to support requests
Conduct research and develop models using podcast audio sourced externally (not from your in‑app activity or microphone)
Comply with legal obligations
Legal bases for processing (EEA/UK): performance of contract; legitimate interests (e.g., service improvement, security, research/model development); consent (e.g., optional notifications); and compliance with legal obligations.
Audio and Transcription Processing
Earmuffs does not capture microphone audio and does not perform backend audio processing. Any filtering features operate without uploading your audio to our servers.
Model training: We use podcast audio and related data sourced from third‑party or publicly available feeds to research and train models. This training data is not collected from your device or microphone and is not tied to your anonymous identifier.
Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell personal information.
We share data only with:
Service providers: Firebase (anonymous auth and app infrastructure), Google Analytics (event analytics), and Sentry (crash/error diagnostics). Providers are bound by contracts and process data on our behalf.
Security and legal: to protect users, prevent fraud, or comply with the law.
Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, where permitted by law.
We do not share data for cross‑context behavioral advertising.
Data Retention
We retain personal data for as long as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Because we do not maintain named user accounts, retention centers on anonymous identifiers, diagnostics, and analytics. Training datasets built from externally sourced podcast audio may be retained for model development and evaluation; they do not include your in‑app audio.
Security
We use technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and hardened cloud infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we work to continuously improve our protections.
International Transfers
If we transfer personal data outside your country, we rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) and ensure recipients provide adequate protection.
Your Rights (EEA/UK and similar regimes)
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:
Access, correct, or delete your personal data
Port your data
Restrict or object to certain processing
Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
Contact us to exercise your rights (see "Contact Us"). We will respond consistent with applicable law.
California Privacy Notice (CPRA)
The categories of personal information we may collect include: identifiers (e.g., app‑specific anonymous identifiers, device identifiers), commercial information (service usage), internet or network activity (app events), and inferences derived from usage to improve features. We do not collect audio or visual data from you.
Purposes: provide Services, security, debugging, short‑term transient use, improvement, and research/model training using externally sourced podcast audio (not your data). We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross‑context behavioral advertising. You may request access, deletion, and correction and limit use of sensitive personal information to what is necessary to provide the Services.
Children’s Privacy
Earmuffs may be used by children under 13. We design the Services to minimize personal data collection and do not collect names or email addresses. We do not capture microphone audio. Model training uses externally sourced podcast audio, not content collected from the child’s device. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us so we can delete it.
Your Choices
Permissions: You can control device permissions (e.g., notifications) via your OS settings. Earmuffs does not use the microphone.
Data controls: You can request deletion of analytics/diagnostics records associated with your anonymous identifier by contacting us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app or by email.
